Earlier this month, the Chinese Martial Arts Academy moved into a bigger space in Bakerview Square.
The academy, formerly at 1705 N. State St., is owned by Christopher Strelau. The new space will allow the academy to offer new classes, including Balintawak arnis (Filipino stick fighting), tai chi for seniors, advanced tai chi and Hung Gar kung fu.
At three times the floor space, the Bakerview Square location allows for other additions, including a kitchen and two offices. Bakerview Square is on West Bakerview Road near Whatcom Community College.
“It’ll be especially great for parents,” Strelau said in a press release. “They can shop while the kids learn kung fu or they can participate in our concurrent boot camps to get in shape.”
On Sunday, June 13, there will be an all-day Balintawak seminar with grandmaster Bobby Taboada.
Strelau has 30 years experience in martial arts. For details, call the academy at 201-1397.
